A defined jawline is the single most recognisable marker of masculine facial structure, and one of the most requested treatments by men.
Jaw and chin definition can be weakened by genetics, by age-related bone resorption along the mandible, or by soft tissue descent. Filler placed along the mandibular border and at the chin restores the angles that read as structure.
How the jawline is built
- AssessmentThe mandibular angle, chin projection and jaw border are assessed from front, three-quarter and profile views.
- Gonial angleProduct placed at the angle of the jaw widens and squares the lower face.
- Mandibular borderA defined line is built along the jaw to separate face from neck.

Chin and jaw are almost always treated together. Building jaw width without addressing chin projection can make the lower face look broad rather than defined.
What to expect
- Firm, structural product is used, which feels different from softer facial fillers
- Swelling for two to five days is normal, particularly along the jaw border
- Bruising is more common here than in other areas due to the vascular anatomy
- The final result settles at around two to four weeks
- Longevity is typically twelve to eighteen months

Frequently asked questions
How much filler does a jawline need?
Commonly four to eight millilitres across the jaw and chin for a visible structural change, though this varies considerably with your starting anatomy. Smaller refinements can be achieved with less.
Will it look obvious?
A well-built jawline reads as structure rather than product. Obvious results usually come from excessive width at the gonial angle without matching chin projection, which makes the lower face look wide instead of defined.
How long does it last?
Typically twelve to eighteen months. The firmer products used for structural work tend to last longer than softer fillers used elsewhere in the face.
Can it fix a double chin?
No. Filler defines the jaw border but does not remove submental fat. If excess fat under the chin is your main concern, jawline filler alone will disappoint and a different approach is needed.
Is it painful?
Local anaesthetic is used and most products contain lidocaine. Expect pressure rather than sharp pain. The jaw is a more sensitive area than the cheeks and some men find it uncomfortable.
